A Walkthrough for Boktai: the Sun Is in Your Hand

"Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand," released for the Game Boy Advance in 2003, is an action role-playing game with an emphasis on the sun. One of the most challenging parts about "Boktai" is its boss battles: long fights against a strong enemy that you must defeat to proceed further into the game. Over the course of the game you encounter six bosses.
  1. The Count

    • The Count is the first true boss you must battle in "Boktai." Many of his attacks can be avoided easily. For example a marker appears on the floor indicating where his dark crystals will show up. The bats the Count uses can be shot at or avoided. The swords the Count throws at you can be shot at so that they damage the Count instead. If you run out of sunlight during the fight, you can power up while under the skylight.

    Garmr

    • Avoid Garmr's freezing breath by running out of its range; the breath has a limited range directly in front of Garmr. Push the scattered ice blocks into Garmr to damage him, taking off 1/8 of his health each time an ice block collides with him. Use any bomb grenades you have acquired, as these do extra damage to Garmr. When Garmr teleports to the middle of the arena, avoid him; he causes an explosion around him which can severely damage your character.

    Muspell

    • The easiest way to defeat Muspell is to stand on the edge of the arena. Quickly move out of the way of Muspell as he rolls toward you, so he will lose his balance on the edge of the arena. Repeatedly attack Muspell as fast as possible while he is teetering. After four to five hits, Muspell falls in the lava, removing 25 percent of his health. Repeat this four times to defeat Muspell.

    Carmilla

    • Carmilla, the boss of Sol City, is a large Medusa-type creature whose weak spot is her tail. The quickest way to defeat her is to arrange the reflective blocks so that when she attacks you with her ball of energy. The reflective blocks send the ball of her energy back into her tail. Each time this is done, Carmilla loses 25 percent of her health. After each successful hit Carmilla destroys the blocks and you must set them up again.

    Sabata

    • Sabata is able to teleport around the arena, using powerful attacks from his gun or sword when he sees you. To beat Sabata, hide behind any of the blocks in the arena. Sabata will teleport close to you and a question mark appears over his head when he cannot locate you. When this occurs, move behind him and attack him. Once Sabata is defeated, you must fight him a second time with no sunlight. However, the strategy to beat him remains the same. Use a Solar Nut to replenish your sunlight during this fight.

    Hel

    • Hel is the final boss in "Boktai." For the first phase, protect Otenko until the four solar generators are brought online. Once this occurs, stand in the middle of the arena in the sunlight to damage Hel and start the second phase. In this phase, damage Hel's hands until the sunlight appears in the middle of the arena. Stand in it to fire a solar ball at Hel, damaging her health. Repeat this process until Hel is defeated. Avoid Hel's hands during this fight; if one of them grabs you, she can replenish her life by taking yours, making the fight even longer.
