How to Catch Dratini in Pokemon Gold

Dratini looks small and harmless in "Pokemon Gold," but don't let its cute appearance fool you. The snake-like Dratini is a member of the dragon family, and its attacks, like Twister and Hyper Beam, pack quite a punch. Dratini later evolves into a more powerful Pokemon, Dragonair. Goldenrod City sells Dratini as a prize in the Game Corner, but if the asking price is too high, you can catch your own for free. To capture a Dratini, head to the high-level Dragon's Den cave.

Instructions

- 1
  Head north from Route 31 to get to Goldenrod City. Once there, walk northwest and enter the Radio Tower.

  Defeat all the Team Rocket grunts in the building. Once you do this, Blackthorn City gym opens.

  Go to Mahogany Town and walk east on Route 44. Enter the cave, called the Ice Path. Navigate through the cave to reach Blackthorn City.

  Go to the Pokemon gym and battle Clair. When you defeat her, she opens the Dragon's Den cave behind the gym and asks you to retrieve an item inside.

  Walk behind the gym and get into the water. Surf through the water and use a Pokemon to get rid of the whirlpool blocking the path. Proceed into the Dragon's Den.

  Surf around inside the Dragon's Den. At random, Dratini battles you. There is a 10 percent chance that Dratini will appear. When it does, throw an Ultra Ball to capture it.
