How to Get a Dark Charizard in Pokemon Ruby

Shiny Pokemon are a rare breed of Pokemon that have different coloring from the rest of their species. A Shiny Charizard has a dark color scheme instead of the bright orange color that Charizard usually has. Charizard is not a native Pokemon in "Pokemon Ruby." Instead, you must trade Charizard from either "Pokemon FireRed" or "Pokemon LeafGreen." To obtain a Shiny Charizard in either of these games, you must obtain a Shiny Charmander as your starting Pokemon, which is an extremely rare circumstance.

Instructions

    • 1

Begin a new game on your copy of "Pokemon LeafGreen" or "Pokemon FireRed" and play through the opening scenes.

    • 2

Save your game right before you select your first Pokemon.

    • 3

Press the "A" button next to the Pokeball containing Charmander to select it as your starting Pokemon. After the selection scene, open the menu and look to see if it is a Shiny Charmander. A Shiny Charmander will have a star next to its name under stats.

    • 4

Press and hold the "A" button, "B" button, "Start" and "Select" on the Game Boy Advance to reset the game if you did not get a Shiny Charmander. The odds for receiving a Shiny Pokemon are 1 in 8,192, so you will have to reset and try again several times before you receive a Shiny Charmander.

    • 5

Evolve your Shiny Charmander into a Shiny Charizard by using it in battles so that it can gain experience. Charmander will first become Charmeloen at Level 16 and Charizard at Level 36.

    • 6

Play through the rest of the game so you can trade to "Pokemon Ruby." You must defeat the Elite Four, earn the National Pokedex and retrieve the Ruby and Sapphire plates in your copy of "Pokemon LeafGreen" or "Pokemon FireRed" to trade. If you follow the game's main storyline, you will complete these tasks at the end of the game.

    • 7

Visit the second floor of any Pokemon Center in both "Pokemon Ruby" and either "Pokemon FireRed" and "Pokemon LeafGreen." Follow the onscreen instructions to connect the Game Boy Advance Link Cable and trade the Shiny Charizard over to "Pokemon Ruby."
