What Level Do You Get Charizard in Pokemon Yellow?

The only thing scarier than a fire breathing lizard is a fire breathing lizard with wings. In "Pokemon Yellow," the Pokemon trainer Damian whom you meet while traveling along Route 24 gives you a menacing little beast called a Charmander who eventually evolves into a larger monster called Charmeleon. Your Charmeleon in turn transforms into Charizard after many hours of time spent training it.
  1. Getting Charmander

    • Getting a Charizard means getting a Charmander first, and the only way to obtain one in "Pokemon Yellow" is to travel to Cerulean City and battle the five trainers who guard the famous Nugget Bridge. Just past the bridge, you will find a ledge, which you can jump over. This puts you on Route 24. If you speak to Damian, the young man you meet there, you will receive your very own Charmander.

    Charmeleon

    • Charmander is by all standards a strong Pokemon, but you will soon discover that if you want to use your new fire lizard to defeat Misty, the leader of the Cerulean City Pokemon Gym, you will need to train him until he becomes a Charmeleon. Misty fights exclusively with Water Type Pokemon, against which Fire Pokemon are weak. If you use Charmander, fight the other trainers along Route 24 and bring him into battles with wild Pokemon you encounter, he will eventually reach level 16 and transform into Charmeleon.

    Charizard

    • Charmeleon may have what it takes to get you best Misty, but he is still no match for any of the very strong trainers you will meet later on in the game. If you want to make him a permanent part of your Pokemon team, you will need to raise him 20 levels above 16 and make him metamorphize into a Charizard. Charizard stands far above all other Fire Type Pokemon in the game. His physical attacks are very strong, and his health points outnumber those of most of his opponents.

    Best Moves

    • Once you find yourself the proud owner of a Charizard, you will need to think about what fighting moves to teach him. Since he is Fire Type, you will probably want to teach him "Fire Blast" and "Fire Spin." If you do not have a strong Grass Type Pokemon in your party, you may need to show him how to use the "Cut" technique as well. The move "Strength," which allows you to use your Charizard to move boulders out of your path, is another excellent choice.
