How to Get Rid of the Weird Tree on Pokemon Gold

The wiggling tree blocking the path on Route 36 in "Pokemon Gold" is actually a rock-type Pokemon called Sudowoodo. Clearing the path of Sudowoodo is the only way to gain access to Ecruteak City. The only way to get rid of him is to collect the Squirtbottle item from a lady in Goldenrod City. Sudowoodo is a rare Pokemon that cannot be found in any other location in "Pokemon Gold" and cannot be encountered in random battles.

Instructions

  Travel to Goldenrod City and enter the gym. Talk to Whitney to challenge her to a Pokemon battle.

  Defeat Whitney in battle to earn the Plain Badge.

  Head over to the small house located near the center of town and talk to the lady inside. She will reward you with the Squirtbottle for defeating Whitney.

  Travel to where Sudowoodo is blocking Route 36 and use the Squirtbottle on him. This will cause him to attack you.

  Use your Pokemon to defeat Sudowoodo in battle or weaken his health meter. Weakening his health meter will allow you to capture him more easily when you throw Poke balls at him. Sudowoodo will stop blocking the path once you defeat or capture him.
