How to Cut Down Strange Trees in Pokemon Gold

As you explore the forests in "Pokemon Gold," you find strange trees and bushes blocking your path. If you examine them, a message appears that says you can cut these trees down if your Pokemon knows a certain move. The move one of your Pokemon needs to know is HM01, Cut. With Cut, Pokemon can remove trees to open time-saving shortcuts in the forest. To get Cut, head to Ilex Forest. When you find a boy's lost Farfetch'd, he gives you Cut as a reward.

Instructions

  Walk west from Azalea Town to enter Ilex Forest. If this is your first time entering Ilex Forest, your rival approaches you. Battle him and win to continue.

  Talk to the boy near the forest entrance. The boy asks you to find his Farfetch'd, a small, brown bird Pokemon.

  Walk down the forest path until you see the Farfetch'd. Approach the bird and press "A." It flies away. Follow it to its landing spot.

  Talk to Farfetch'd again to make it move. If you talk to Farfetch'd on its left side, the bird flies right. If you talk to it on its right side, Farfetch'd flies left. Keep talking to the bird to direct it to the boy.

  Talk to the boy again to get HM01, Cut. Open the inventory and select the HM/TM list. Select Cut and then choose the Pokemon you want to teach the move to. If a Pokemon can learn the move, "Able" displays by its name.

  Approach a strange tree. These trees resemble large bushes. Tap "A" in front of the tree. Select "Yes" at the prompt to cut down the tree.
