How Do You Catch Rare or an Area Unknown in the Game Pokemon Blue for the Game Boy Color?

One of the oldest tricks in the Pokemon book is to surf up the coast of Cinnabar Island, where you can earn an infinite number of your favorite item and capture the elusive Pokemon known alternately as "Unknown" or "Missingno." Before you head to the island, however, you will have to follow a series of steps that set in motion the easily exploitable glitch that allows you to earn valuable items such as Rare Candy and capture Unknown.

Instructions

  Set the Rare Candy or other item you would like to obtain to your fifth slot.

  Travel to Viridian City and speak with the old man who stands near the path leading up to Viridian Forest. Ask him to show you how to capture Pokemon, and he will demonstrate using a wild Weedle.

  Use Pidgey or another Flying-type Pokemon to reach Cinnabar Island via air.

  Walk to the east coast of Cinnabar Island and use Blastoise or another Water-type Pokemon to surf.

  Move up and down the coast until a random battle begins. The battle will be with Unknown, who may also be called Missingo. When you defeat or capture him, he will not occupy a slot in your Pokedex. If you give him a Water, Fire or Moonstone, he will transform into the hard-to-find Normal-type Pokemon Kangaskhan. You will also notice after beating him that no number appears next to the item in your fifth slot -- this is because you now have an infinite supply.
