How Do You Become a Dragon User on the Game Pokemon Gold Version

In the "Pokemon" games, your ultimate goal is to catch every Pokemon; in the "Pokemon Gold" version, there are 250 Pokemon to catch. However, you can specialize in using a certain type of Pokemon; for example, you can become a Dragon user by catching, training and raising Dragon type Pokemon. Some Pokemon in the game are pure Dragon types, while others have a secondary type; you can use this to your advantage when battling other trainers.

Instructions

    • 1

Play through your "Pokemon Gold" game; your starter Pokemon will be Chikorita, Cyndaquil or Totodile, depending on which one you choose. Dragon-type Pokemon are one of the least common types and you won't be able to catch one until you have progressed far enough in the game.

    • 2

Catch the first Pokemon that will put you on the path to becoming a Dragon user in the Whirl Islands -- Horsea, or its evolved form, Seadra. If you catch a Horsea, add it to your team and let it battle wild Pokemon and in Trainer battles so that it gains experience; it will evolve into a Seadra. Trade your Seadra with a friend, having the Seadra hold a Dragon Scale, and Seadra will evolve into the Water/Dragon Pokemon Kingdra. Trade Kingdra back with your friend and add your new Dragon type to your team.

Defeat Gym Leader Clair at her gym in Blackthorn City; she is the final Gym Leader you will face, and she specializes in Dragon type Pokemon. When you beat her, she will refuse to give you the Gym Badge and instead will send you into the Dragon's Den to prove yourself. While in the Dragon's Den, you can catch a Dratini, or more rarely a Dragonair. Both Pokemon are pure Dragon-types. Catch several Dratini to add to your team of Dragon types. Let Dratini participate in battles to gain experience; at level 30, Dratini will evolve into Dragonair, which evolves into Dragonite, a Dragon/Flying type, at level 55.
