How Do You Make the Thirsty Guard Let You Pass in the Pokemon Red Version Game?

In "Pokemon Red Version," a few roads are guarded and therefore impassable. The guards will not let you through because they are thirsty. The only way to gain access to the road beyond the guards is to give them a drink. Drinks can only be purchased on the top floor of Celadon Department Store in Celadon City.

Instructions

      Go to Celadon Department Store and go to the roof. Buy one Lemonade, one Soda Pop and one Fresh Water from the vending machine.

      Go East to Saffron City. The guard will stop you and then will say that he is parched before taking one of your drinks.

      After the guard finishes the drink, he says that he will share it with the other guards. The guarded roads should now be accessible.
