Where to Find Ragnarok in Final Fantasy 1

The first two entries in the classic role-playing series "Final Fantasy" were remade as "Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls" for the Game Boy Advance. Released in 2004, this remake offers bonus content, including new optional dungeons, bosses and treasure to acquire. The sword Ragnarok, a regular feature in the "Final Fantasy" series, was missing from the original game. Here, it has been added as the final reward for completing the "Lifespring Grotto" optional dungeon.
  1. Enter Lifespring Grotto

    • Progress through the game until you defeat Tiamat, the last of the four fiends. At this point, a series of new, optional dungeons will be available across the world. You can find Lifespring Grotto, the location of the Ragnarok, in a whirlpool to the east of Melmond, the village that was previously ravaged by the Vampire. To enter, you will need your old ship, which you probably left near the desert in the southeast corner of the world map. Lifespring Grotto is a 20-level dungeon with randomized floors. Only floors five, 10 and 20 have a predetermined layout, and a boss to defeat.

    Gilgamesh

    • Search floor 5 for Gilgamesh, the boss of this level. He can spawn inside a treasure chest or near the exit. Kill him with primarily physical attacks. Gilgamesh hits very hard with his basic attack, so you might want to use protective spells such as "Protera" to raise your characters' physical defense. After Gilgamesh dies, you can continue through the dungeon.

    Atomos

    • Defeat Atomos on the 10th floor. You can find him guarding the only door in the room. He deals heavy magic damage through his "Firaga" spell and can cause instant death with his "Wormhole." You can guard against Wormhole by casting "NulDeath" on your party members, equipping "Protect" rings on everyone or equipping the "Ribbon" headgear. You will need to heal through the magic damage with everything you have.

    Shinryu

    • On the 20th floor you will see two doors. Enter the northeast door to face Shinryu, the hardest encounter in the game. It is recommended to enter this battle with a party at around level 70, with plenty of healing spells available. Attack Shinryu with mostly physical damage. He will fight back with extremely heavy damage that can kill your entire team in only one or two turns. Heal through the damage and resurrect any slain party members. Upon his defeat, Shinryu will yield the Ragnarok, one of the game's strongest weapons.
