How to Get Shadow in Tales of Phantasia for the Game Boy Advance

Shadow is one of 12 Summon Spirits you can get in "Tales of Phantasia" for the Game Boy Advance. Unlike many of the other Summon Spirits, getting Shadow to join your team is entirely optional. Shadow is found in a cave southeast of Ary and will join your team if you have the Amethyst Ring. Using Shadow in battle is one of the few ways you can deal dark-type damage to your enemies. This is useful because few enemies have a strong defense against dark-type damage.

Instructions

  Travel to Long Valley and enter the cave at the edge of town. Go down the rope and push the two boulders over the rift. This will clear the Shoki in your way.

  Continue south until you reach a save point, then follow the path west until you see a chest. Open the chest to procure the Amethyst Ring.

  Exit the cave and head to the town Ary (where it's always nighttime). From Ary, head southeast until you reach a cave. This is the Cave of Darkness.

  Enter the Cave of Darkness. Shadow will be standing inside if you have the Amethyst Ring. Talk to Shadow to hear about how his friends were brainwashed by Dhaos and how he wants to help you. Shadow will automatically join your team after you speak with him.
