How to Go Up a Waterfall in Pokemon Silver

To catch all of the available Pokemon in "Pokemon Silver," a trainer must be willing to search for Pokemon on both land and at sea. The Surf ability is used by trainers to cross flat bodies of water, such as a sea or a lake. However, it takes more than just Surf alone to scale a waterfall. Instead you need to teach the Waterfall ability to one of your Pokemon. The Waterfall ability can only be learned by obtaining the hidden machine HM 07 -- no Pokemon can learn the ability naturally.

Instructions

  Fly to Mahogany Town using a Pokemon with the Fly ability.

  Walk to the east of Mahogany Town and keep walking until your path is blocked by a lake. Take the path to the north to continue heading east. You will eventually find a cave.

  Enter the cave. You will be on the first floor of the Ice Path, which contains the HM 07 Waterfall item. Whenever you slide on the ice in the Ice Path you will continue in the direction you were heading until stopped by an obstacle in your path.

  Slide right, down, right, down, and then right on the first ice patch. Slide up, left, up, right, up, right, down, left, up, left, down, right, down, right, up and right on the second ice patch. Slide right, up, right, down, right, down, right, up, left, down, left, up and right on the third ice patch to reach the HM 07 Waterfall.

  Open your menu and select the items submenu. Select the HM 07 Waterfall and teach the ability to one of your Water Type Pokemon. You will now be able to swim up waterfalls whenever this Pokemon is in your party.
