How to Trade From a GBA to a VBA

Many GameBoy Advance games, or GBA games, allow trading items or characters between them --- most notably in the Pokemon games. Visual Boy Advance, on the other hand, or VBA, is a computer emulator for GameBoy games. Because VBA plays GameBoy games on the computer, a traditional GameBoy Advance connection cable cannot be used. The only way to transfer between GBA games and the computer is through the wireless trading abilities included with any Nintendo DS model. Only the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi can read GBA games, so you will need one of these models.

Instructions

    • 1

Install the wireless Visual Boy Advance plugin. One reliable plugin is VBA Link.

    • 2

Insert the GBA game into the Nintendo DS. Open the game. Open VBA and load the corresponding virtual GBA game.

    • 3

Turn on the wireless plugin in Visual Boy Advance. This is done by clicking "Options," then "Link Options."

    • 4

Enter the trading area in both versions of the GBA game. In the Pokemon games, this area is the second level of the Pokemon Center.

    • 5

Connect the two platforms. This is usually done by approaching a computer or store counter within the area.

    • 6

Select the items for trading, then select "OK" or "Confirm," depending on the game.
