Select which of the basic "Pokemon" games you wish to mod. This is the first and most important step of the process, because it dictates what functionality you will be able to access as a modder and what mod software is available. For example, newer generations of "Pokemon" include breeding as part of the gameplay. If you select a "Pokemon" version that was released before breeding was implemented, then your remix cannot have breeding.
Download emulator software from the Internet that will enable you to run the game on the computer.
Search for "Pokemon" mod software that will enable you to change the configurations of the game. There are hundreds of different programs, and each one performs a unique function for a specific game. For example, "Pokemon" Editor Pro allows you to modify the base statistic of "Pokemon," but only for games that were released on the Game Boy Advance.
Download Advance Map. This program is perhaps the most popular "Pokemon" modification software, because it allows gamers to completely change the game world, and it functions over a variety of "Pokemon" game versions.
Open your version of "Pokemon" in each of your mod programs and make alterations to the game.
Save the game after making all desired modifications.
Test the game by running it in your emulator software to ensure that your modifications did not cause the game to crash. If possible, access the part of the game that you changed. For example, if you changed the statistics of "Pokemon," then open the game menu to look at the statistics to make sure that everything is acceptable. If the game is glitched, then you will have to return to the editor and undo any changes you made.
Test the game by making a complete play-through after finishing all modifications. You can mod as much or as little of the game as you like, but it is crucial that you debug the game before finishing it, especially if you are going to release your remix to the online modding community.
