How to Get the Best Out of Your Pokeball in Pokemon Sapphire

Pokeballs are the items used both to capture and to store Pokemon in the game "Pokemon Sapphire." They can be purchased all over the Pokemon world in various Pokemarts. However, some Pokeballs, such as Master Balls, are rare and can only be obtained once from areas where they are found. Knowing how to battle Pokemon you are attempting to capture and what the different types of balls do can greatly increase the efficiency of your Pokeballs, allowing you to waste fewer balls as you play.

  Lower the wild Pokemon's HP, or hit points, to critical condition before using a ball to try to capture it. This means it should nearly be defeated, and getting it down to a single HP allows you the greatest chance of catching any Pokemon.

  Use immobilizing moves on wild Pokemon that will put them to sleep, freeze them or paralyze them. A Pokemon is always easier to catch if it is standing still. Combining this technique with the technique of lowering HP draws out the greatest benefit from all types of Pokeballs.

  Know the different types of balls. Great Balls have an effectiveness rate that is 1.5 times higher than that of a regular Pokeball. Ultra Balls double your chances of catching Pokemon. When combined with immobilizing and HP-lowering techniques, Ultra Balls are extremely useful. There are also several types of Pokeballs that increase your chances of catching Pokemon once a specific requirement has been met.

  Use Net Balls to get the most out of your attempts to capture water and bug Pokemon. These balls triple your odds of catching them.

  Throw Dive Balls at any Pokemon you want to capture while you are underwater to increase your chances of success by three and a half times.

  Capture low-level Pokemon with Nest Balls. Your chances of success are based on what the level of the Pokemon is.

  Use Timer Balls in long battles. Every 10 turns, your chances of catching the Pokemon will increase.

  Capture any Pokemon, once you have already obtained one of the same kind, with a Repeat Ball, and your chances of success will be tripled. A special trick you can use to more easily capture rare Pokemon, such as the Legendaries, is to trade with someone who has them and then trade back. This way, they will be counted in your Pokedex as being caught, and when you attempt to fight them yourself, you can capture them easily.

  Save your Master Balls for Pokemon you desperately want to capture. Because these special balls have a 100 percent chance of capturing any wild Pokemon, they are limited in number. Only one can be found during regular gameplay in "Sapphire," and one more can be won in the lottery. Therefore, you should use them on wild Pokemon you only have one chance to fight and capture, such as the Legendary Pokemon.
