How to Get Into the Dragon Den in Pokemon Crystal

In "Pokemon Crystal," the Dragon's Den is located behind the Blackthorn City gym and is home to a variety of rare Dragon-type Pokemon, such as Dratini and Dragonair. When you first arrive in Blackthorn City, a man blocks the entrance to the Dragon's Den. To gain access, you must defeat Clair, the final gym leader of the Johto region and surf north behind the gym to reach the entrance.

  Defeat Clair at the Blackthorn City gym. Clair uses three Dragonairs and one Kingdra on her Pokemon team. Her Dragonairs are weak against Ice-type attacks and her Kingdra is weak against Dragon-type attacks.

  Speak to Clair and she will give you permission to go to the Dragon's Den and find her an item called the "Dragon Fang." Once you find this item, she will give you your eighth badge.

  Exit the gym and approach the water behind it. Press "Start" to open the in-game menu and select "Pokemon." Choose the Pokemon with the "Surf" ability to surf onto the water.

  Surf north and enter the Dragon's Den cave opening. Since you have been given Clair's permission to enter, the man that once blocked the entrance will now let you pass.
