Visual Boy Advance is a freeware program that allows you emulate Game Boy Advance titles on your computer. To use VBA, you must download ROM images of the games you wish to emulate. However, you must own the original cartridge of any Game Boy Advance title you wish to emulate. One feature of many Game Boy Advance titles is the ability to link your system to a friend's. In the various games in Nintendo's "Pokemon series," you must take advantage of this feature in order to trade Pokemon. To trade Pokemon in Visual Boy Advance, you will use the VBA Link Add-On.

Download VBALink from vbalink.info.

Uncompress the contents of the VBAlink.zip file, using either Window's native compressed folders utility or software such as WinZip or WinRAR.

Double click VBA.exe and select a Pokemon ROM image, using the "Open ROM" feature in the "File" menu. Repeat this process to open another Pokemon ROM.

Head to a Pokemon Center in both instances of Pokemon you are running. Talk to the man in the top-right corner of the Pokemon Center, to begin trading Pokemon.
