Pokemon Silver Cheats on GBC: How to Get Charmander

The fire-breathing lizard Pokemon Charmander does not appear as a tradeable Pokemon in the wild or in battle in "Pokemon: Silver," leaving a spot in the player's Pokedex empty. Players who own the first generation Pokemon games, such as "Red," "Blue" or "Yellow," can use one of those games to acquire Charmander in "Silver." "Silver," a second generation Pokemon game, can also trade with second generation Pokemon games such as "Gold" and "Crystal."
  1. Charmander Locations in First Generation Games

    • In "Red" and "Blue," visit Professor Oak's laboratory in Pallet Town. Speak to Oak to get your choice of one of three starter Pokemon: Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Charmander. Select Charmander for your starter Pokemon. Your rival will select one of the other two Pokemon. In "Yellow," your starter Pokemon is Pikachu. Walk along Route 24 in "Yellow" and speak to Damien to get his Charmander.

    Trading to "Silver"

    • Players will quickly learn that in the beginning of "Silver," they are unable to trade Pokemon with first generation games. Go to Ecruteak City in "Silver" and talk to Bill, who can repair the "Time Capsule" feature located in the Pokemon Centers. Save the game and turn off the system. Place the first generation game into a second Game Boy Color system. Connect the two systems using a Game Boy Color link cable. Turn on both systems. In "Silver," go to the second floor of any Pokemon Center to access the Time Capsule. You can now trade between your first generation "Pokemon" game and "Silver." Trade Charmander to "Silver."

GameShark Code for Charmander in "Silver"

    • Players need not involve other games to acquire Charmander if they have access to cheat devices like the GameShark. Insert the Gameshark into the game port on the Game Boy Color. Connect "Silver" to the top of the Gameshark. Turn on the Game Boy Color. When the GameShark menu displays, select "Enter Cheats." Enter "04." Press the "Start" button to go to the GameShark main menu. Select "Start Game" to enter the "Silver" main menu. In random encounters, you should now be able to face and capture Charmander.

Action Replay Max Code for Charmander in "Silver"

    • Insert "Silver" into the slot on the Action Replay device. The Action Replay device itself is inserted into the Game Boy Color game port like a typical game cartridge. Turn on your system and view the code list for "Silver." From this menu, select "Add New Cheat." Enter "04" for Charmander, its Pokedex number in the second generation games. Return to the cheat list and navigate to the cheat you entered. Press "A." A check mark should appear beside the code you entered. From the Action Replay main menu, select "Play Game." While the code is activated, you can encounter Charmander in random encounters.
