How to Catch Magmar in Pokemon LeafGreen

Magmar is a Fire-type Pokemon introduced in the first-generation "Pokemon Red," "Blue," and "Yellow" games. It is the evolved form of Magby and the pre-evolved form of Magmortar. Like many other Fire-type Pokemon, Magmar is fast and powerful but defensively frail. Magmar's move pool is somewhat limited; it boasts several offensive attacks, including "Psychic," "Fire Blast," "Thunderpunch" and "Cross Chop," but lacks viable support moves. In "LeafGreen," you can capture Magmar on Mt. Ember after earning the Volcano Badge.

  Use super-effective attacks such as "Surf," "Rock Slide," and "Earthquake" to defeat Blaine in the Cinnabar Gym and obtain the Volcano Badge.

  Exit the gym. Bill will speak to you and present you with the Tri-Pass, allowing you access to the One, Two and Three Islands.

  Fly to Vermilion City and ride the Seagallop Ferry to One Island. Surf north to reach Mt. Ember.

  Roam the grass until a Magmar appears. Lower Magmar's HP into the red zone and inflict it with either Paralysis or Sleep. Throw PokeBalls of your choice at Magmar until it is caught.
