How to Use ROMs on DS Without an Emulator

While the Nintendo DS offers more than 1,150 titles, sometimes you just want to relive your memories of playing "Super Mario Bros.," "The Legend of Zelda," "Tetris" and other classic Nintendo games. Emulators make it possible for you to play these titles as ROM images, but installing emulators can sometimes be a hassle. If you want to play classic Nintendo titles like those you would use as ROMS without emulation software, you must buy Gameboy Advance or DS cartridges with those games on them.

Instructions

Track down the Classic NES Series of titles. Nintendo released these cartridges for Gameboy Advance during the early 2000s. Titles in the series include Bomberman, Donkey Kong, Excitebike, Ice Climber, the Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros., Castlevania, Dr. Mario and Metroid. Playing Classic NES Series Gameboy Advance Cartridges on your DS allows you to play typical ROM titles without having to use an emulator.

Collect the "Super Mario Advance" series. This series includes the following classic ROM titles: "Mario Bros.," "Super Mario Bros. 2," "Super Mario Bros. 3," "Super Mario World" and "Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island." Playing these games using the "Super Mario Advance" cartridge is easier and less cumbersome than using a flash card packed with an emulator.

Play "Super Mario 64 DS" and "Ocarina of Time 3DS." These cartridges feature graphically enhanced remakes of two classic Nintendo 64 games. Not only do they allow you to avoid using an emulator, they also give you new features not present in the original games.
