What Is a Quick Way to Catch Latios in Pokemon Ruby?

Latios is a Legendary Pokemon found in "Pokemon Ruby" after the player has defeated the Elite Four and completed the game's storyline. After the credits roll, you reappear in your house in LittleRoot, where you must watch a TV report on Latios to cause the Pokemon to start appearing in Hoenn. However, Latios will appear in random locations and move to a new area whenever you do the same. Apply strategy to your hunt for Latios and cut back on the amount of time spent trying to find and capture the Legendary Pokemon.

Beginning Your Search
- Each time you move to a new location, such as a town or a route, Latios will also move to a randomly selected area. The easiest way to find Latios is to stay close to the border of two different areas where wild Pokemon appear. If Latios does not appear after five wild Pokemon encounters in one area, move to the next. If Latios does not appear again after five wild Pokemon encounter, move back to the first area. This method reduces the time spent searching for Latios by causing it to come to you by process of elimination. Flee from the wild Pokemon encounters to save time.
Using the Pokedex
- If you encounter Latios once, it will appear in your Pokedex, even if Latios escaped before you could capture it. The Pokedex will inform you of the area where Latios is currently found, but by the time you travel there, Latios has often moved again. Use the Fly ability to travel among cities quickly. Each time you travel to a new city, check the Pokedex to see if Latios is in the wild Pokemon areas nearby. If not, travel to a new city and try again. Repeat this process until Latios is near the city you are in.
Choosing Your Pokemon
- Once you encounter Latios, it will try to escape before you have the chance to capture it, sending you on the search once again. Put Pokemon into your party that will prevent Latios from escaping. The Shadow Tag ability used by Wobbuffet and Wynaut prevents opponents from escaping in battle, as does the Mean Look ability used by Gobat and Sableye. When you begin the battle, immediately use one of these abilities to stop Latios from escaping, then whittle down its health points using your strongest attacks. When it is weakened, use an Ultra Ball to capture it.
Using the Master Ball
- The easiest and quickest way to capture a Latios is to use the Master Ball you received in Team Magma's hideout during the game's storyline. You have only one opportunity to get the Master Ball, and it is the only one in the game. Use a Master Ball at the start of your battle with Latios for a guaranteed capture without having to weaken the Pokemon. If you accidentally kill Latios while trying to lower its health points, you will have to restart or lose the opportunity to catch Latios.
