How to Get Legendaries in Emerald

Legendaries are among the most powerful Pokemon in the Nintendo Game Boy Advance video game "Pokemon Emerald." There are a number of Legendary Pokemon you can encounter and catch during the course of the game, but because of their high levels and strength it may be some time before your Pokemon trainers are at a high enough level to capture one. Once caught, they can be formidable fighters in your traveling and battling party of Pokemon.

Instructions

    • 1

Catch a Wailmer by fishing on Route 129 and evolve it into Wailord by getting it up to Level 40. Catch a Relicanth on Route 124 or Route 126 and set it as the last Pokemon in your traveling party of six. Set Wailord as the lead Pokemon, and head to Pacifidlog Town.

    • 2

Use a Pokemon's Surf move to go west across the water. Stay close to the rocks on the south side and you will come across a calm patch of water with a passage leading to a cave. Head into the cave and use a Pokemon's Dig move in front of the Braille writing on the wall. This will move you into another cave. Read the Braille on the far wall and there will be an earthquake.

    • 3

Go to Route 111, swapping Relicanth and Wailord out of your party on the way if you don't want to use them to fight the Legendary Pokemon. Go into the Sandstorm on Route 111 and head to the south until you come to a cave entrance. Use a Pokemon's Rock Smash move to open the entrance and you will encounter a Level 40 Regirock, the first Legendary Pokemon. Use a Water, Grass, Fighting or Ground-type Pokemon to wear down Regirock's Health Points and catch it in a Pokeball.

    • 4

Go to Dewford Town and head north on Route 105. Stick to the western side of the route and you'll see an island in the water--go over to it and walk in a circle clockwise around the cave entrance to open it. You will encounter a Level 40 Regice. Use a Fighting, Steel, Rock or Fire-type Pokemon to wear down Regice's Health Points and use a Pokeball to catch it.

    • 5

Head to Lilycove City and place a Pokemon with the Flash move in your traveling party. Head to the Ancient Tomb on Route 120. Stand in the center of the tomb, use Flash and the entrance at the rear will open. Inside you will find a Level 40 Registeel. Use Fighting, Ground and Fire-type attacks to wear down its health and catch it in a Pokeball.

    • 6

Go to the Weather Institute on Route 119. Talk to the scientist upstairs and he will give you the name of a route to go to. If it is Route 105, 125, 127 or 129 then you are hunting Kyogre. Get to the Route as fast as possible, and use a Pokemon's Surf move to find darker patch of water. Here you will encounter a Level 70 Kyogre--it is a Water-type, so it is weak against Grass and Electric-type Pokemon.

    • 7

Head back to the Weather Institute and talk to the scientist again. If he tells you to go to Route 114, 115, 116 or 118, you are hunting Groudon. Get to the Route in question as fast as possible and find the cave in an area where the sunlight is brighter than normal. Inside the cave you will encounter a Level 70 Groudon--it is a Ground-type Pokemon you can beat using Water, Grass or Ice-type moves.

    • 8

Go to Pacifidlog Town and make sure you have the Mach Bike instead of the Acro Bike. Surf east from town and follow the north border of the path until you find a beach. Go up the beach to the Sky Pillar and head to the top. Use the Mach Bike to get over the cracks in the floor to reach Rayquaza in the middle of the Pillar. Rayquaza is a Level 70 Dragon/Flying-type Pokemon which is weak against Rock, Dragon and in particular Ice-type attacks.

    • 9

Defeat the Elite Four of the Pokemon League to complete the main storyline of the game, and the game will re-start with you in your room. Go downstairs and talk to your mom, who will show you something on the TV. She will then ask you to choose between red and blue--choosing red lets you find a Latias, while blue lets you find a Latios. You will encounter whichever one you choose randomly somewhere in the game world.

    • 10

Use a Pokemon's Mean Look move to stop Latios or Latias from running away when you encounter it. Both are Dragon/Psychic-type Pokemon, which are weak to Bug, Ghost, Ice, Dragon and Dark-types, the only difference between the two being color and appearance. Latios is always male, while Latias is female.
