How to Get Past Snorlax in Yellow

"Pokemon Yellow" contains numerous obstacles that block particular paths and force the player to take certain routes to obtain the necessary moves and items to progress in the game. One of these obstacles is Snorlax, a powerful Pokemon with a penchant for sleeping in the middle of narrow paths, such as those west of Celadon City and east of Vermillion City. To wake the Snorlax and get past them, the player needs a special item: the Poke Flute.

Instructions

    • 1

Progress through the game until you beat Erika in Celadon City and obtain the Rainbow Badge. Go to the Game Corner, which is also in Celadon, and examine the poster on the back wall to enter the secret Team Rocket hideout.

    • 2

Explore the hideout and defeat Giovanni, who will drop the Silph Scope. Go to Lavender Town and enter Pokemon Tower. Use the Silph Scope to identify the special ghost on the sixth floor as a level 30 Marowak. Defeat the Marowak, which cannot be captured, to calm its spirit. Proceed to the next floor of Pokemon Tower.

    • 3

Defeat Team Rocket and rescue Mr. Fuji, who was praying for the soul of the enraged Marowak when he was captured. Mr. Fuji will bring you back to his house and give you the Poke Flute, which you can use to wake up any sleeping Pokemon.

    • 4

Go to one of the sleeping Snorlax and play the Poke Flute to wake it up, initiating a battle. Both of the Snorlax are level 30. Defeat, capture or flee from it to open the path.
