Digimon Battle Spirit
This fighting game, released in 2003, is intended for either for one or two players. Players could use one of seven monsters. A Digimon's Digivolve function, which at the player's command changed the form of the Digimon, could make the monster more powerful by increasing its strength and attack options. A successful player could unlock hidden Digimon characters.
Digimon: Battle Spirits 2
The sequel, also from 2003, had eight monsters, all of which were featured in the fourth season of the "Digimon" TV series. Battles took place in 2D arenas filled with colorful backdrops and platforms. Rather than deal damage, the player's attacks allowed her to steal D-Spirit balls which were needed to win battles. In multiplayer mode, two players could do head-to-head duels through a GBA link cable device.
Digimon Racing
In this racing title from 2004, the monsters rode karts through tracks based on themes like jungles and lava zones. It had a time trial mode for speed and a "Cup" race campaign. Characters could use their Digivolve abilities to gain a boost in a race. Players who beat the challenges unlocked secret "Digimon" characters.
Other Nintendo Digimon Games
"Digimon World" for the Nintendo DS was a turn-based monster-dueling game released in 2006. Players collected Digimon or bred their creatures with others to create Digimon eggs. These monsters were then used in combat. Players could also swap monsters online through the DS Wi-Fi Connect service. "Digimon World 4" from 2005 was more of a real-time RPG. Instead of the turn-based system, the Nintendo GameCube title had players use a digimon to fight off hordes of enemies.
