How to Get Dragonite on Crystal

Dragonite is the final evolution form of Dratini and Dragonair. Dragonite cannot be directly caught in "Pokemon Crystal." You need to capture a Dratini or Dragonair and get it to evolve. Both of these can be found by fishing in specific areas. The level and species you fish is dependent on the fishing rod used. It is faster to get a Level 40 Dragonair to evolve into a Dragonite, but you can capture a Level 20 Dratini with much lower-level Pokemon.

  Go to Route 45 or the Dragon Den. It does not matter which. The levels and probability of encountering Dratini and Dragonair are identical. Stand next to any body of water in this area.

  Lower your fishing rod into the water. If you use the Good Rod, you can only find Level 20 Dratini. If you use the Super Rod, you can find Level 40 Dratini or Level 40 Dragonair. Keep fishing until you find a Dratini or Dragonair.

  Weaken the health of the Dratini or Dragonair until it is nearly dead.

  Throw Poke Balls at it until you successfully capture it.

  Fight Pokemon using Dratini until it evolves into Dragonair. Skip this step if you captured a Dragonair. Dratini evolves into Dragonair at Level 30. If you captured a Level 40 Dratini, it evolves into Dragonair as soon as it reaches Level 41.

  Fight Pokemon using Dragonair until it evolves into Dragonite. This occurs when Dragonair reaches Level 50.
