List of Pokemon You Can Catch in Silver

The Game Boy Color's "Pokemon Silver" features over 100 Pokemon that you can catch throughout the game. Many of these Pokemon evolve into new Pokemon that you can only get through evolution. Every Pokemon has at least one type, while some have two. These Pokemon are organized by their primary type, but keep in mind that each Pokemon's secondary type plays a role in that creature's strengths and weaknesses.
  1. Normal and Flying Pokemon

    • Normal Pokemon are usually some of the most common Pokemon you'll encounter in the Pokemon games. They have no offensive advantage against any Pokemon types, and their moves are weak against Rock and Steel Pokemon. In "Pokemon Silver," you can catch Pidgey, Pidgeotto, Rattata, Raticate, Fearow, Clefairy, Jigglypuff, Meowth, Farfetch'd, Doduo, Dodrio, Lickitung, Chansey, Kangaskhan, Tauros, Ditto, Eevee, Porygon and Snorlax. You can also catch Sentret, Furret, Hoothoot, Noctowl, Togepi, Aipom, Girafarig, Dunsparce, Snubbull, Teddiursa, Ursaring, Stantler, Smeargle and Miltank. Flying is almost always a sub-type, and only one Pokemon that can be caught in "Pokemon Silver," Spearow, has Flying as his primary type.

    Bug and Grass Pokemon

    • Bug Pokemon you can catch in "Pokemon Silver" include Caterpie, Metapod, Butterfry, Weedle, Kakuna, Beedrill, Paras, Venonat, Venomoth, Scyther, Pinsir, Ledyba, Ledian, Yanma, Pineco, Shuckle and Heracross. Bug-type Pokemon are offensively strong against Grass, Psychic and Dark Pokemon, but take extra damage from Fire, Fighting, Poison, Flying, Ghost and Steel moves. Grass Pokemon show defensive strength against Ice, Steel, Fire, Rock and other Grass Pokemon, but take extra damage from Fire, Poison, Bug and Flying moves. Grass Pokemon that can be caught in this game include Oddish, Gloom, Bellsprout, Weepinbell, Exeggcute, Tangela, Hoppip, Skiploom and Sunkern.

    Fire and Water Pokemon

    • Fire-type Pokemon take less damage from Grass, Steel, Bug, Ice and other Fire attacks. They take more damage from Ground, Rock and Water moves. Fire Pokemon you can catch in "Silver" include Vulpix, Growlithe, Ponyta, Rapidash, Magmar and Slugma. Water Pokemon deal more damage to Rock, Fire and Ground Pokemon, but are susceptible to Grass and Electric moves. Water Pokemon include Psyduck, Golduck, Poliwag, Poliwhirl, Tentacool, Tentacruel, Slowpoke, Slowbro, Seel, Shelder, Krabby, Kingler, Horsea, Seadra, Goldeen, Seaking, Staryu, Magikarp, Gyarados, Lapras, Chinchou, Lanturn, Marill, Wooper, Quagsire, Qwilfish, Corsola and Remoraid.

    Electric and Poison Pokemon

    • Electric-type Pokemon take little damage from Steel, Flying and other Electric Pokemon, and only Ground moves cause extra damage to them. You can catch the Electric Pokemon Pikachu, Magnemite, Voltorb, Electrode, Electabuzz, Mareep and Flaafy in "Silver." Poison Pokemon cause extra damage to Grass Pokemon, but Steel Pokemon are completely immune to Poison-type moves. Poison Pokemon you can catch in "Pokemon Silver" include Ekans, Female Nidoran, Male Nidoran, Nidorina, Nidorino, Zubat, Golbat, Grimer, Muk and Koffing.

    Ghost and Psychic Pokemon

    • Ghost Pokemon are completely immune to Fighting and Normal attacks, though Normal Pokemon are also immune to Ghost moves. The Ghost Pokemon available for catching in "Pokemon Silver" include Gastly, Haunter and Misdreavus. Psychic Pokemon have defensive strength against Fighting and Psychic moves, but they take extra damage from Bug, Ghost and Dark Pokemon. Psychic Pokemon in this game include Abra, Kadabra, Drowzee, Hypno, Mr. Mime, Natu, Xatu, Unown and Wobbuffet.

    Fighting and Rock Pokemon

    • Fighting Pokemon are defensively strong against Bug, Rock and Dark moves, but they're weak against Flying and Psychic moves. In "Pokemon Silver," you can catch the Fighting Pokemon Machop, Machoke and Tyrogue. Rock Pokemon take extra damage from Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground and Steel Pokemon, but deal extra damage to Fire, Ice, Flying and Bug Pokemon. You can catch the Rock Pokemon Geodude, Graveler, Onix, Sudowoodo and Larvitar in this game.

    Dragon, Dark and Steel

    • Dragon-type Pokemon are offensively strong against other Dragon Pokemon and offensively weak against Steel Pokemon. The only two you can catch in "Pokemon Silver" are Dratini and Dragonair, who you can evolve into Dragonite. Dark Pokemon you can catch include Murkrow, Sneasel and Houndour. Dark-type Pokemon are immune to Psychic moves. While many Pokemon have Steel as their secondary type, the only primary-type Steel Pokemon you can catch in "Pokemon Silver" is Skarmory.

    Legendary Pokemon

    • "Pokemon Silver" contains five legendary Pokemon. These legendary Pokemon are generally stronger than most regular Pokemon, and they're also harder to catch. Lugia, pictured on the "Pokemon Silver" box art, can be caught -- it is a Psychic/Flying Pokemon. Ho-Oh, from "Pokemon Gold" box art, is a Fire/Flying Pokemon. The game's three legendary dog Pokemon are the Electric-type Raikou, the Fighting-type Entei and the Water-type Suicune.
