Save Game
The standard method of saving your progress is the simple "Save Game" option on the "System" menu. A saved game is kept permanently so the player can return to it at any time. "Save Game" can be performed whenever the player is between battles. The player can also store multiple saves at various points to revisit earlier areas of the game.
Quick Save
During battles, the player might be forced to save his game and quit for an extended time. To make the game more difficult, the player is restricted from using a standard "Save Game" mid-battle; otherwise, the player could reverse any tactical mistake by simply restarting and reloading after every turn. Instead, the game offers a temporary "Quick Save" option for players who must quit in the middle of a battle. This save persists until the player restarts the game, at which point the temporary save is deleted. Additionally, the "Quick Save" is updated automatically every time the player makes a decision.
Stand By
The Nintendo DS is capable of entering a "Stand By" mode for an extended period of time. By simply shutting the lid of the machine, the game pauses and enters a power conservation mode. When the player reopens the DS, the game will continue where it left off.
Save State
Certain emulation software for the computer can be used to run Nintendo DS games, including Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift. This software has a special "Save State" option, which saves the exact status of the game, and can be used at any time. The "Save State" function can be used to bypass the protections offered by the "Quick Save" function, allowing the player to save and reload mid-battle to reverse mistakes.
