Things You'll Need
Instructions
Base
Begin with a simple animal. Most Pokemon are based on familiar woodland or jungle creatures.
Decide what type of Pokemon you'd like. The vast majority of Pokemon are simply an element fused with an animal. This will determine the color palette and abilities your custom Pokemon will exhibit.
Draw the basic shapes of the character. Focus on the larger qualities. For example, a giraffe has a large neck, so begin by drawing a long, slender neck. Continue with long lines for the legs and a long, oval shape for the body. Draw the head similar to a cone.
Decide where you want the Pokemon type to show itself. For example, if you want your giraffe be a fire-type, sketch fiery feet or a flame-filled mane.
Details
Add details the creature. Depending on how friendly you want to make your Pokemon, draw the eyes angry or soft. An arched back with spiky fur will indicate protection or hostility. Add spots or stripes wherever you desire. Include any claws or fangs.
Use a pen to finalize the outline and details of your Pokemon. Trace over any lines that you decide to keep.
Erase any stray marks or lines that you do not want to appear in the final version.
Color your Pokemon. Base the color scheme on your preferences. For example, it can take on hues from its elemental powers or be a completely random palette.
Name your newly-created Pokemon. Base the name on its powers or a combination of the initial animal and the Pokemon type. Include a brief origin, height, weight, and any other background information to accompany your creation.
