How to Catch Pokemon at the Safari Zone

The "Pokemon" games for the Nintendo Gameboy have a special zone known as the Safari Zone that contains Pokemon that players don't find elsewhere, and catching them is required to complete your Pokedex. It also has its own battle and catch system, meaning you catch Pokemon differently there than everywhere else in the game. You don't have to weaken a Pokemon before trying to catch it, but the only type of Pokeballs you can use are the 30 "Safari Balls" that you start with in the Safari Zone.

Instructions

  1. Entering the Safari Zone

    • 1

Go to Fuscia City in the Kanto region by walking or by using the fly ability that one of your Pokemon knows; alternatively you can use the surf ability for traveling with water Pokemon.

    • 2

Head north of the city and enter the Safari Zone.

    • 3

Talk to the guy at the entrance and agree to pay 500 Pokemon dollars to receive 30 Safari Balls.

    Catching a Pokemon

    • 4

Walk through grass or surf on water until you find a wild Pokemon.

    • 5

Throw bait at the Pokemon to make it less likely to run away but harder to catch; throw a rock to make it more likely to run away but easier to catch.

    • 6

Throw a Safari Ball to attempt to catch the Pokemon; you are unable to weaken the Pokemon since battling with your own Pokemon is not allowed in the Safari Zone.

    • 7

Continue this process until you've caught the Pokemon you want or all your Safari Balls are gone; if you run out of Safari Balls, exit the Safari Zone and pay another 500 Pokemon dollars to obtain 30 more.
