How to Catch Qwilfish in Pokemon Crystal

In "Pokemon Crystal," Qwilfish is a small, round water- and poison-type fish Pokemon that can learn moves such as pin missile and hydro pump. According to the Pokedex, Qwilfish tries to match a larger opponent's size by swallowing large amounts of water. It has no known pre-evolutionary or evolutionary forms. Qwilfish can only be found by fishing on Route 12 in the Kanto region or on Route 32 in the Johto region.

Instructions

  1. Johto Route 32

    • 1

      Travel south from Violet City onto Route 32 in the Johto region. Walk south onto the pier where three fishermen are fishing for water-type Pokemon.

      Face any part of the ocean and press "Start" to bring up the in-game menu. Select the super rod from your key items bag to go fishing.

      Fish for a wild Qwilfish. There is a 10 percent chance of encountering a Qwilfish. If you encounter any other wild Pokemon while fishing, defeat them or run away from battle. Select your super rod in your key items bag again to continue fishing.

      Engage the wild Qwilfish in battle. Weaken it until its hit points are in the critical red zone and throw a poke ball. You can also use status-changing moves that cause sleep or paralysis to make Qwilfish easier to catch.

    Kanto Route 12

      Travel south from Lavender Town onto the lengthy pier known as Silence Bridge. There are many fishermen fishing for wild water-type Pokemon at the sport fishing area.

      Approach the sport fishing area, face the ocean and select the super rod from your key items bag to fish for a Qwilfish. Qwilfish in this area have a 10 percent encounter rate and will be at Level 40.

      Battle the wild Qwilfish, afflict it with a status ailment and lower its hit points into the red zone. Throw a poke ball to catch it.
