How to Catch Sudowoodo in Pokemon Gold

Sudowoodo is a Rock-type Pokemon that resembles a tall tree. Although it has high defense and attack statistics, and can learn strong moves such as Rock Slide and Earthquake, it lacks speed and hit points. In In "Pokemon Gold," Sudowoodo is the strange object that blocks the entrance to Route 37 and shakes when you examine it. To clear the entrance, you must irritate Sudowoodo by spraying it with a Squirtbottle, forcing it to attack and battle you.

  Defeat Whitney, the leader of Goldenrod City gym, and obtain the Plain Badge. Whitney uses two Normal-type Pokemon that are weak to Fighting-type attacks.

  Visit the florist to the right of the gym. Speak to the lady inside to receive a Squirtbottle.

  Head north through the gatehouse and enter the National Park. Walk east through the National Park and approach Sudowoodo at the intersection.

  Press "A" to examine Sudowoodo and choose to use the Squirtbottle. You will be forced into battle with Sudowoodo. Weaken Sudowoodo until its hit points are in the critical red zone.

  Throw a Poke Ball at Sudowoodo to capture it. If it breaks free, throw more Poke Balls at it until it is captured.
