Celadon City Store Tips in Pokemon Yellow

Celadon City is a large city in Pokemon Yellow and it is the first city to house a Pokemon department store. The store in Celadon City is much larger than the average Pokemart and it sells a wider variety of items. Due to it's size it can be confusing for trainers and can make deciding what to buy an impossible task. By following a few simple steps you can make the most of the Celadon City store without wasting your hard earned money.
  1. Pokeballs and Potions

    • When you first arrive in the Celadon City department store, stock up on Pokeballs and Potions. Take the elevator to the Trainer's Market on the second floor. Here you can buy Great Balls for $600 and Super Potions for $700 by speaking to the second attendant. Buy plenty of both as they will make your journey easier.

    Save Your Money

    • Speak to the first attendant in the Trainer's Market to buy technical machines (TMs), which are moves that you can teach to your Pokemon. However, the TMs available in the Celadon City store are not that useful, so save your money for more powerful TMs later in the game.

    Free Move

    • Head to the TV Game Shop on the third floor and talk to the man behind the counter. After a short conversation he will give you a free move, TM18 Counter. This is a fighting-type move that becomes stronger if the move used before it was a fighting-type or normal-type attack.

    Buy Stones

    • On the fourth floor is a counter that sells evolution stones. Here you can buy Fire, Thunder, Water and Leaf Stones, which can be used to evolve certain Pokemon in the game. When you explore Celadon City you will find a free Evee. Evee has three different evolutions depending on the type of stone you use to evolve her. Now is a good time to use either a Leaf, Fire or Water Stone to evolve Evee and fill a gap in your party.

    Free TMs

    • Take the elevator to the rooftop and speak to the girl there. She will give you a TM in exchange for a drink bought from the vending machine. Give her a Fresh Water in exchange for TM13 Ice Beam, a very strong ice-type attack. Give her a Soda Pop and you will receive TM 48 Rock Slide, which is a rock-type attack. Finally, give her a Lemonade and she will give you TM49 Tri Attack, an attack that deals fire, water and grass damage to an opponent.
