How to Get the HM Fly in Sapphire

In "Pokemon Sapphire," Hidden Machines, or HMs, are special moves that your Pokemon use to help you reach new places. HMs let you surf across oceans, dig tunnels and light up dark caves. HM 02, Fly, returns you to any city you have been to previously. It's also a devastating attack on the battlefield. Only winged Pokemon have the ability to learn this useful move. To earn Fly, you must confront and defeat your rival.

Instructions

- 1
  Go to Mauville City and leave through the eastern exit. Enter Route 118.
- 2
  Cross the islands of Route 118 with a surfing Pokemon. Several trainers will challenge you here. Defeat them to proceed.

  Go north to Route 119. Navigate through the grassy areas and fight any trainers you encounter. Enter the Weather Institute at the end of the path.
- 4
  Battle all of the Team Aqua Grunts inside the building to force them to vacate the area. This will unblock the bridge outside. Leave the building and cross the bridge.
- 5
  Fight your rival when he appears to challenge you. As a reward for winning, your rival will give you HM 02, Fly.
