Instructions
Purchase items at any Pokemart, available in each city. The Pokemart is the only building with a blue roof and a Pokeball symbol on the front of it. Speak to the person behind the counter to purchase healing items, Pokeballs to catch Pokemon, and any other items you may need.
Walk in the tall grass, in caves, abandoned buildings or through fish to find wild Pokemon. These Pokemon will randomly battle you as you walk. Weaken them using your Pokemon and use a pokeball to catch the wild Pokemon. There are over 300 Pokemon to catch in the game.
Battle other trainers and wild Pokemon to level up your Pokemon. Upon winning the battle, you are awarded with experience and money. With each level your Pokemon gains, his statistics increase making him stronger, faster and able to take more damage. Evolve your Pokemon into a new form through leveling or by the use of items. You can view all statistics of your Pokemon from the "Pokemon" menu.
Visit a Pokemon Center in any town to heal your Pokemon by talking to the nurse behind the desk. The Pokemon Center has a red roof with a pokeball symbol on it.
Use the Union Room, located on the second floor of any Pokemon Center, to trade Pokemon with your friends.
Learn the various Pokemon types to know each Pokemon's strengths and weaknesses. For example, water is strong against fire, but weak against electric. Use a Water-type against an opponents Fire-Type, but never against an Electric-type Pokemon.
Follow each route to be taken to a new city. The routes are numbered in sequential order, and in most towns a Gym Leader awaits. Defeat the Gym Leader in his or her gym to earn a gym badge.
Complete any story segments along the way. These segments will occur automatically each time you enter a new city, and usually must be completed before you can challenge the gym leader.
Challenge the Elite Four once all eight gym badges are obtained. Once you defeat the Elite Four, you will be the Pokemon champion and win the story portion of the game.
Capture the legendary Pokemon, such as Mewtwo or Entei, that appear once the Elite Four has been defeated. Continue to train your Pokemon and participate in the Battle Tower, or challenge your friends to high level Pokemon duels.
