How to Catch Pokemon in the Safari Game

The Safari Zone in both "Pokemon Red/Blue" and its remake "Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen" allows players to catch rare Pokemon without engaging them in a typical Pokemon battle. Instead, players catch Pokemon by strategically throwing rocks and bait, then using special Safari Balls to catch them. Certain Pokemon, such as Exeggute, can only be found in the Safari Zone. The Safari Zone is located in Fuchsia City and can be explored for $500.

Instructions

    • 1

Travel to Fuchsia City and enter the Safari Zone by paying $500 to the man standing at the front desk. You will be given 30 Safari Balls with which to catch Pokemon.

    • 2

Walk in areas with tall grass to engage a Pokemon. You will be given the option to throw a Safari Ball, bait or a rock -- or to run away from the Pokemon.

    • 3

Choose between throwing a rock or bait at the Pokemon. Throwing a rock will increase the likelihood of the Pokemon running away from you, but will also increase your odds of catching it. Throwing bait will decrease the likelihood of the Pokemon running away from you, but will also decrease your odds of catching it.

    • 4

Throw a Safari Ball at the Pokemon after it has become angry but not run away, after you have thrown a rock or after it is distracted by bait. A captured Pokemon will be added to your team if it is unable to break free from the Safari Ball.
