Safari Zone Tips for FireRed

"Pokemon FireRed," along with its companion game, "LeafGreen," are Nintendo Game Boy Advance games based on the original Pokemon Red and Green games for the Nintendo Game Boy. These games are compatible with the other Game Boy Advance Pokemon games, Ruby and Sapphire. The Safari Zone is an area in the game in Fuchsia City were wild Pokemon can be caught. A player pays Y500 for 30 Safari Balls and 600 steps inside the Safari Zone. Once a player has taken 600 steps or used all 30 Safari Balls, they are transported back to the entrance of the zone.
  1. Step counter

    • You may need to make multiple trips into the Zone to meet all the available Pokemon and retrieve all the items. To make the most out of a trip to the Zone, lightly tap the directional buttons to turn the character around in one spot. As long as you do not move in any one direction, the amount of available steps will not decrease but you will still encounter wild Pokemon.

    Surf HM

    • The Surf HM is found in the Safari Zone. A man in a hut in the far left-hand side of the Zone will give you HM03 - Surf after you talk to him. Surf can be taught to Water-type Pokemon and can be used to move travel across bodies of water, including the many ponds and lakes in the Safari Zone. While using Surf in the Zone still counts toward your total number of steps, you can reach areas much faster without having to walk around the water.

    Strength HM

    • Outside the hut with the old man that gives you Surf, in the far left-hand side of the Zone, you will find the Warden's Gold Teeth item. After exiting the Zone, go to the house to the right of the Pokecenter in Fuchsia City. The Warden will give you HM04 - Strength as a thanks for returning his teeth. Strength can be taught to Normal type Pokemon and can be used to move rocks.

    Items and TMs

    • Several TMs can be found scattered throughout the Safari Zone. Because of their scattered location, it may take more than one trip into the Zone to collect them all. The TMs available in the Zone are TM11 - Sunny Day, TM47 - Steel Wing, and TM32 - Double Team. Other items can be found including a Leaf Stone, Max Potions, Proteins, a Max Revive, a Full Restore and a Quick Claw.
