How to Get the HM Waterfall on the Game Pokemon Ruby Red

HM07, the Hidden Machine that teaches Pokemon the move "Waterfall," is found late in "Pokemon Ruby." Waterfall doubles as both a strong, damaging water-type attack and as an ability used to climb up waterfalls in the Hoenn region. Pokemon trainers will have to explore a deep, dark cave to find the reusable item. HM07 is unusable unless the player defeats the Sootopolis Gym Leader's water-type Pokemon in an epic battle.

Instructions

  Enter the Cave of Origin found along the northern wall of Sootopolis City. Bring along a Pokemon with the move "Flash" to light the pitch-black cave.

  Follow the linear path through the winding hallway. HM07 is lying in plain sight on the cave's path. Face the item and press "A" to add it to your inventory.

  Continue along the path inside the Cave of Origin to its final room to challenge Groudon. Either knock out or defeat Groudon to make Sootopolis Gym accessible.

  Enter the Sootopolis Gym to battle Gym Leader Wallace. He exclusively uses water Pokemon that range from level 40 to 43. Grass and Electric attacks deal heavy damage when used against water Pokemon. Wallace will reward you with the Rain Badge once you beat his Seaking, Whiscash, Sealeo, Luvdisc and Milotic. This badge allows you to use the move "Waterfall" outside of battles to navigate the environment.
