How to Soft Reset in Pokemon FireRed

You may occasionally need to restart your game when playing "Pokemon FireRed" on the Gameboy Advance due to a system hiccup or because you accidentally killed a rare Pokemon. Nintendo did not include a reset button on the Gameboy Advance, but you can perform a soft reset by holding down certain buttons. A soft reset is essentially the same as pressing "Reset" on a console or other device; it doesn't require you to power off your "Pokemon" game, it simply just resets it.

     Press the "A" and "B" button simultaneously with your right thumb. Do not release your thumb.

     Press both the "Select" and "Start" buttons at the same time with your left thumb. The game will reset.

   • 3

     Release both of your thumbs. Your game will load the last save file.
