How Do I Soft Reset My GBA?

It happens to the best of Game Boy Advance gamers: You get stuck in a certain part of a video game and you find yourself needing to reset the game in order to correct your mistake. In this situation, a soft reset is in order. A soft reset will stop the game and bring you back to the start menu, allowing you to continue immediately. This is unlike a hard reset, when the system itself restarts, meaning you must wait for the Game Boy Advance start screen and the game to load before you can play again.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold down the "A," "B," "Select" and "Start" buttons to execute a soft reset on the Game Boy Advance. You must hold down all four buttons simultaneously for the soft reset to work.

    • 2

Check the game manual to see if a different soft reset option is available. Some games use a different combination of buttons for the soft reset. For example, the game "Pinobee" requires you to hold down the "L" and "R" buttons in addition to the normal soft reset combination.

    • 3

Hold down the "Start," "Select" and "B" button to execute a hard reset when no soft reset option is available. Some games, such as "GT Advance," do not have the option for a soft reset. A hard reset can also be executed by turning off the system, waiting a few seconds and then turning it back on.
