How to Get Dig Without the TM in Pokemon Emerald

"Pokemon" is famous for creating content that requires special abilities to bypass. Those abilities usually come in the forms of TMs and HMs, such as Headbutt and Dig. You may need to use the Dig ability to gain entry to a cave or otherwise impassible entrance. While you can acquire a TM to learn the ability, you can opt to capture a Pokemon that learns Dig instead. There are only two Pokemon that can learn Dig in "Pokemon Emerald."

Instructions

    • 1

Visit Route 116, 111 or the Mirage Tower. Route 116 houses Nincada, while Trapinch is stationed on Route 111 and in the Mirage Tower.

    • 2

Run back and forth in the grass if you visit Route 116. Nincada will eventually appear. Nincada is not a common Pokemon, so it may take a few passes before you encounter it. Run in the desert area if you visit Route 111, or run anywhere inside the Mirage Tower if you visit the tower. Like Nincada, Trapinch is uncommon. Throw a Pokeball once the Pokemon is at 25 percent or less health.

    • 3

Level Nincada up to 45 or Trapinch to 41. Upon reaching their respective levels, the Pokemon will learn Dig.
