How to Capture Kyogre in Pokemon Sapphire

Kyogre, the massive "Sea Basin" Pokémon, can only be located in one secluded spot in "Pokémon Sapphire" for the Game Boy Advance. Kyogre is a mighty Water-type Pokémon that is sought after by the evil organization Team Aqua so they can use its power to cover the planet with water. The legendary Kyogre has high stats in every area, and exceptional special attack and defensive abilities. Kyogre is relatively easy to find, but difficult to contain in a Pokéball.

Instructions

    • 1

Defeat Team Aqua in the Seafloor Cavern found on Route 128. Find the Seafloor Cavern by using Dive in the dark areas of water on the Route and look for the cave entrance. Battle through Team Aqua's thugs until you challenge and defeat Team Aqua's leader Archie in the final chamber of the cave. After Archie is beaten, Kyogre will escape from the Seafloor Cavern.

    • 2

Go to the north end of Sootopolis City and talk to the elderly man standing in front of the Cave of Origin. He will allow you to enter the cave.

    • 3

Walk to the fourth basement level of the Cave of Origin and save the game. Face Kyogre and press the "A" button to start the Pokémon battle to capture it.

    • 4

Weaken Kyogre until its heath bar fades from green, to orange and finally red. Use moves that cause debilitating effects such as "sleep" and "paralysis" to make Kyogre easier to capture. Although Ice type moves can cause the "frozen" status to greatly improve the chances of locking a Pokémon into a Pokéball, they also damage Kyogre to inflict the deep freeze. If you accidentally knock out Kyogre, reset the game for another chance. Some attacks and Pokémon to keep in mind include Parasect's "Spore" attack that inflicts "sleep" after each use and Magneton's paralyzing "Thunderwave" move. The "False Swipe" attack can leave a single point of health on Kyogre's life bar making it even easier to catch.

    • 5

Send out Pokemon that are suited to handle the wet and wild savage attacks Kyogre unleashes when disturbed. The level 45 Kyogre will know "Ice Beam," "Hydro Pump," "Calm Mind" and "Body Slam." Grass and Electric-type attacks will severely hurt Kyogre, but take care not to knock it out before you have a chance to capture it. Water-type Pokémon are resistant to Kyogre's powerful "Ice Beam" and "Hydro Pump" attacks, so consider bringing along a Water type or two such as Sharpedo or Empoleon to whittle away at Kyogre's health bar.

Choose special Pokéballs for capturing such a mighty beast of a Pokémon. Net Balls are especially effective for catching Kyogre because Net Balls have a higher rate of capture when used on Water Pokemon. Ultra Balls and Timer Balls are also efficient for reeling in a Kyogre, as Ultra Balls are the general heavy duty Pokéball and if the battle drags on, TimerBalls will become especially valuable. If you have a Master Ball, it will instantly capture Kyogre. Keep several Potions, Freeze Heals, Revives and Elixirs in your Item Bag as insurance against Kyogre's vicious attacks.
