How to Stop a Pokemon From Evolving in Ruby

Pokemon can evolve into different characters with battle experience, but this is not always advantageous. Sometimes, an evolved Pokemon will fundamentally change the stats of the creature in a negative way. Third generation Pokemon games like "Ruby" on the Game Boy Advance made it possible to give Pokemon certain items to accomplish different effects. Any Pokemon holding an Everstone in "Ruby" will not evolve.

Instructions

      Enter combat at random or against a trainer. Defeat the opponent to bring up the evolution prompt.

      Press "B" repeatedly when the evolution cut scene begins playing. Press the button until the game says "Pokemon has stopped evolving!"

      Open the Options menu. Press the D-Pad left or right to bring up the items menu.

    • 4

      Press "A" to select the "Everstone." Select "Give," then give the everstone to the Pokemon you don't want to evolve.
