How to Do the Missingno Trick in Pokemon Yellow

"Missingno" is a glitching Pokemon found in the "Red," "Blue" and "Yellow" versions of the game. Encountering the glitch in battle is a cheat that provides infinite copies of one item. To find this Pokemon, the player triggers a series of events, then searches for the Pokemon along the coast of "Cinnabar Island." After the player flees battle, the desired item is duplicated to its maximum quantity.

Instructions

  Travel to Cinnabar Island and enter the Pokemon fossil exhibit. Speak to one of the wandering trainers and agree to trade Pokemon with him. Leave the building, then walk to the right side of it, against the shore.

  Place an item you wish to duplicate in the sixth slot of your inventory, then save your game. Use the "Surf" ability from a water Pokemon and travel up and down the coast until you encounter a blurred Pokemon named Missingno.

  Select the "Flee" option to immediately retreat from Missingno. Travel back to land and open your inventory to verify that the sixth item shows a value of "x99."
