Pokemon Red and Blue
Pokemon Red and Blue were the first installments of the Pokemon video game series. Released in 1998 for the original Game Boy, the game allows a player to play as a novice trainer attempting to become a Pokemon master. Set in the fictional region of Kanto, the trainer must face and defeat the Elite Four, the top Pokemon trainers in the region. Players can also catch up to 151 Pokemon by capturing wild species in a Pokeball. The Pokemon can then be used to defeat other trainers.
Pokemon Gold and Silver
"Pokemon Gold and Silver" was the sequel to Pokemon Red and Blue. The game was available in 2000 for the newer Game Boy Color handheld console but could be played on the original Game Boy. The game introduces 100 new Pokemon to collect. Featuring a similar plot, the novice Pokemon trainer travels the Johto region in hopes of becoming a Pokemon master. Pokemon Gold and Silver included new features in addition to battling, capturing and evolving Pokemon. A time system kept track of the time and day. Pokemon are also able to hold items such as berries and potions. The Pokegear was introduced and served as a watch, map, radio and phone.
Pokemon Stadium
Pokemon Stadium is a strategy game that was developed for the Nintendo 64 home console in 2000. Instead of featuring a storyline or elements of a role playing game, game play only consists of battling Pokemon. Sixty-four of the original 151 Pokemon were available to use in battle. The matches take place in a stadium, where players can choose from between four different cups in which to participate. After completing all of the cups, players get to challenge the powerful Pokemon Mewtwo in a final battle.
Pokemon Black and White
Pokemon Black and White are the fifth installments in the Pokemon series. Released in 2011 for the Nintendo DS, the trainer travels the region of Unova raising Pokemon, battling Gym leaders and defeating the criminal organization Team Plasma. Pokemon Black and White introduces more than 150 new Pokemon to the list, while providing updated and realistic 3D graphics. In addition to day and night cycles, the game introduces seasonal cycles. Certain Pokemon can only be captured during certain seasons. In the game, trainers can now battle with three Pokemon at a time or in one-on-one battles, where the Pokemon can be switched out at will without losing a turn.
