How to Play Game Boy Pokemon on a PC

Pokemon has come a long way since the days of Green, Blue and Red. These originals for the Game Boy nevertheless hold a lasting charm, and gamers who want to enjoy these classics again can do so on their computer. To do so, you'll need to use a Game Boy emulator and get a Pokemon ROM. Note that if you do not own the original Pokemon cartridge, downloading and playing the ROM is illegal. You can purchase one of the original cartridges at used game stores or online at sites like Craigslist or eBay.

Instructions

    • 1

Install a Game Boy emulator. There are nine to choose from, most of which perform the job admirably. Of note are Visual Boy Advance, which can also play Game Boy Advance games, and BGB, which supports game linking, which is a useful ability in the Pokemon series in which trading Pokemon over a link is the only way to get a complete Pokedex.

    • 2

Download a Pokemon ROM. There were four games released for the original Game Boy, including Red, Green, Blue and the Special Pikachu Edition. Only download those ROMs you have a cartridge for.

    • 3

Start the emulator and run your "Pokemon" game.
