How to Troubleshoot Pokemon for the Game Boy Advanced

Several Pokemon titles, including "Pokemon: FireRed" and "Pokemon: Ruby", were released for Nintendo's Game Boy Advance. As you venture across the Pokemon landscape in search of new Pokemon and new challenges, you may also encounter game-play and system problems that make it difficult or impossible to continue your game. Follow these steps to overcome these issues.

Instructions

    • 1

Look at the Game Boy Advance's power light. If the light has switched to red, you must replace the batteries in your system. Ensure the "Pokemon" cartridge is in the Game Boy Advance properly. The game's label should be visible when inserted. You will hear a "click" when the cartridge is fully inserted into the system. Turn the system on again and resume game-play.

    • 2

Turn off the Game Boy Advance. Remove all accessories attached to it, including any link cables, and turn the system on again. If game-play resumes as normal, the accessories you have may not be official Nintendo products. Read the manual for your specific "Pokemon" game to see which accessories are compatible with your game.

    • 3

Adjust volume settings if your game does not have audio by turning the "Volume" dial on the system. If there are items inserted into the Game Boy Advance's headphone port, firmly connect the accessory into the port. If volume problems persist, remove the accessory.

    • 4

Wait for any error messages. If the message, "Internal battery has run dry" appears while you play "Pokemon: Ruby" or "Pokemon: Sapphire," continue play as usual. The internal battery only affects the game's clock. This error will not affect saved game data or game-play.

Check the berry trees in-game while you play "Pokemon: Ruby" or "Pokemon: Sapphire." If berries no longer grow on the trees, it is because many trees stop producing fruit after one year of game-play. You can resolve this by linking one of these games with "FireRed," "LeafGreen," or "Emerald." You can also get the berry patch when you play and link "Ruby" or "Sapphire" to "Pokemon: Colosseum."
