How to Fix Gameboy Games

Introduced to the U.S. in 1989, the Game Boy portable game system was the first of its kind created by Nintendo. Several other systems, including Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance, have been introduced to Nintendo's Game Boy line since. If Game Boy games do not work or cause other problems for the player, it may be game-related or a problem with the Game Boy itself. Turn the system off before you proceed with any troubleshooting advice.

Instructions

Remove the Game Pak from the Game Boy and set it aside. Certain games have known problems with the Game Boy. Pokemon games most often present problems, although other titles are known to have problems on the Game Boy as well. If you have caught MissingNO in a Pokemon game, you may encounter graphics-related problems. Release MissingNO to fix the problem. Do not link or trade between a Japanese and an American Pokemon game, as this may also cause problems.

Check all accessories and games used with the Game Boy. If they are not licensed by Nintendo, they may malfunction or cause game-play problems. The Game Boy is designed for use with products licensed by Nintendo. All merchandise licensed by Nintendo will bear an official seal sticker on the product box or the product itself.

Push the Game Pak into the system again. The game's label should be visible and facing you when it is inserted into the system. You will hear a click when the game has been fully inserted. Turn the system on and wait. If the system does not respond or turn on, replace the system's batteries and attempt this step again.

Remove all accessories, including items like link cables, before you turn your system on and play the game. If game-play is improved, it may be because there is a compatibility issue between the system's accessories and your game.
