How to Get Your Pokemon From the Gold Version Onto a Newer Game

The Pokemon Gold game was developed for play on the Game Boy Color and is compatible with the Game Boy Advance (GBA). You can trade Pokemon from Gold to versions of the game that were developed for the GBA, such as Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire.

Instructions

      Insert the Pokemon Gold game into the Game Boy Color cartridge slot in the GBA and insert the GBA Pokemon game into the other cartridge.

      Turn on your GBA and select your GBA Pokemon game: Ruby, Sapphire or Emerald.

      Go to a Pokemon Center and enter the top floor where you can trade Pokemon.

    • 4

      Select the option that allows you to transfer Pokemon from your Pokemon Gold version. Choose the Pokemon you want to transfer.
