How to Open the Lock on the Door in Route 8 in SoulSilver

The west side of Route 8 of "Pokemon: SoulSilver" has a locked gatehouse door that prevents the player from directly entering Saffron City. It is possible to get the thirsty guards next to the gatehouse to unlock the door by bringing them a drink. This cannot be accomplished until reaching Celadon City later in the story. This method of unlocking the door is identical to the method used in "Pokemon: Heart Gold."

  Go to the roof of the department store in Celadon City.

  Examine the vending machine. The purchase menu appears with three drink options.

  Press "Fresh Water" to purchase it from the vending machine. You can buy any of the drinks from the vending machine to get the guards to unlock the gatehouse door. "Fresh Water" is the least expensive drink, which makes it the best choice.

  Go to the gatehouse on the west end of Route 8.
- 5
  Talk to one of the guards. Agree to give him a drink if he unlocks the door.
