How to Get Into Lt. Surge in Pokemon Blue Version

In order to finish "Pokemon Red" or "Blue," players must defeat eight gym leaders and the Elite Four plus their in-game rival. Each evolution of the "Pokemon" series has introduced new sets of gyms and gym leaders. Lt. Surge is the boss of the gym in Vermilion City in all versions of "Pokemon" (based off of the original "Pokemon Red" and "Blue" for the Gameboy). To access the gym, players must have HM01 Cut. To access Lt. Surge, players must navigate a switch puzzle and challenge gym trainers.

  Find HM01 on the S.S. Anne in Vermilion City. Enter the S.S. Anne with the S.S. Ticket. Go to the second floor and fight the in-game rival Gary. Go into the Captain's Cabin. Talk to the captain and he will ask you to rub his back. Rub his back and he will give you the HM01 Cut.

  Exit the S.S. Anne and head to the Vermilion City gym. Teach HM01 to one of your Pokemon. Most grass-type Pokemon can learn Cut. Use Cut on the tree blocking the entrance to the gym, then enter the gym.

  Locate the three trainers inside the gym. Either fight the trainers or avoid the them. The rest of the room is filled with trash bins. Check each trash bin using the A button until you find a switch which engages one half of the lock to get into Lt. Surge's room.

  Find the second lock, either above, below or to the sides of the first lock. Its location is random. If you choose the correct lock, then the door to Lt. Surge will open. If you choose the wrong lock, then both locks will reset. Repeat the process until both locks are engaged and the door opens.
